Nubia Z80 Ultra Review: 50MP Camera Flagship with Gaming Power
In 2025, Nubia released the Z80 Ultra imaging flagship smartphone, equipped with a 50MP large-sensor triple camera and Qualcomm’s Supreme Edition chip, enhancing gaming performance and photography experience. It features a 7200mAh battery supporting 90W fast charging and wireless charging, along with a photography kit and a Luo Tianyi Limited Edition, starting at 4999 RMB. This upgrade focuses on imaging and gaming controls, making it one of the most powerful performance imaging flagships on the market.

Super-capable camera gaming phone
Recently, Nubia brought the upgraded model of their imaging flagship series — the nubia Z80 Ultra.
This generation once again maxes out imaging and performance, replacing the signature 35mm main camera with a new-generation sensor, upgrading the ultra-wide lens, and adding a photography kit to enhance shooting control.
The device is equipped with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and a new display, improving the gaming control experience. For battery life, it switches to a 7200mAh flagship-level large battery, upgrades wired fast charging, and adds wireless charging, starting at 4999 RMB.
First, let’s look at the imaging section. The Z80 Ultra features a standard triple-camera system of “ultra-wide + 35mm main camera + periscope telephoto.” The 35mm main camera uses a 50MP 1/1.3-inch DCG HDR Shadow Master 990 sensor with an F1.7 aperture and optical stabilization.
The ultra-wide-angle camera uses a 50MP 1/1.55-inch sensor with a 7P lens featuring aspherical high-transmittance glass and an F1.8 aperture, equivalent to an 18mm focal length.
The periscope telephoto camera is equipped with a 64MP 1/2-inch sensor with built-in optical image stabilization. The high-resolution sensor allows users to crop more easily when shooting at long focal lengths. With optical stabilization at long range, taking photos at concerts becomes more convenient. The telephoto camera also supports 15cm close-up macro photography, providing a more comfortable perspective for still-life shooting.
All three cameras support 4K 120fps video recording, and all lenses include blue-glass vacuum-coated IR filters. The phone’s side features a dedicated shutter button, allowing users to open the camera instantly by long-pressing, perfect for street photography.
Speaking of street photography, Nubia also offers a dedicated photography kit for this generation. The kit includes a phone case with a titanium-colored aluminum alloy frame combined with tech nano leather. A magnetic and buckle-mounted leather grip can be attached at the bottom to enhance handheld comfort during horizontal shooting. The top of the case can mount the Neo Bar intelligent camera control bar.
The kit includes a lanyard and replaceable shutter button, making the Z80 Ultra with the kit feel more like a rangefinder-style camera.
The control bar connects wirelessly to the phone. Once attached, it adds physical toggles and a shutter button, dual dial wheels on both sides, and a cold shoe mount for attaching a microphone or fill light. The kit also includes an independent cold shoe that can be mounted directly on the protective case when the Neo Bar is not in use.
The lens area of the case includes a mount, allowing the use of specialized lenses. The kit comes with a 67mm filter adapter ring, so users can mount ND, CPL, and other filters normally used on cameras.
In terms of performance, the Nubia Z80 Ultra is powered by the fifth-generation Qualcomm Snapdragon Supreme Edition mobile platform, paired with LPDDR5X + UFS 4.1 storage, achieving 3910368 points in AnTuTu benchmarks.
Inside the device is the Red Magic CUBE Skyborne gaming engine, featuring AI Super Stable Frame 4.0 and AI super-resolution & frame-boosting technology. Titles such as Arena Breakout support 90Hz full-map ray tracing, while Delta Force and League of Legends Mobile support 144Hz gameplay.
The physical buttons on the side support half-press, full-press, rapid tapping, and lift-off action mapping. Users can configure aiming controls via the gaming assistant to improve gaming control precision.
The display upgrade also enhances gaming control experience. The Z80 Ultra features a unique 6.85-inch 2688 × 1216 144Hz BOE Sky Full Display. The screen uses X10 luminous elements, supports 2000-nit peak brightness, 100% DCI-P3, 1.07 billion colors, and ZREAL UHD certification, with a co-developed ultra-clear visual engine tuned with Qualcomm for consistent performance at all brightness levels.
For gaming, this display supports 144Hz refresh rate and 3000Hz instantaneous touch sampling. Nubia optimized touch technology for this generation, improving response speed, stability, and precision, while reducing touch failures.
In terms of battery, the Z80 Ultra is equipped with a 7200mAh fourth-generation Nanhai battery, supporting 90W fast charging, along with 80W wireless charging and wireless reverse charging.
Using AI Power testing, the Z80 Ultra reached 77–78W actual charging power. A full 0–100% charge takes 50–51 minutes, performing close to official claims, reducing pressure when choosing chargers.
For appearance, the Z80 Ultra continues the square design of the Nubia Z series. It supports IP68 & IP69 dust and water resistance. The block-shaped DECO area is divided into upper and lower parts — the upper part houses the main camera, ultra-wide lens, and ring fill light, while the lower part contains the periscope telephoto and the nubia logo.
There are three main colors: Phantom Black, Glazed White, and the perennial special edition “Starry Collector Edition.” This time, Nubia also launched a cross-collaboration “Luo Tianyi Limited Edition.”
The limited edition features a red theme, with a dedicated Luo Tianyi logo on the lower DECO area. It also includes exclusive start-up, unlocking, charging animations, and wallpapers. The limited edition will be sold in a special boxed set including the phone, a collectible figurine, phone case, charging kit, custom SIM pin, and charging accessories.
