RedMagic 10 Air Review: A Gaming Powerhouse with Compromises
Is the RedMagic 10 Air Worth It? Depends on What Kind of User You Are
When it comes to gaming smartphones, anyone can stack specs, but RedMagic is one of the few that makes those specs feel human. After using the RedMagic 10 Air for a month, here are my key takeaways: if you're a hardcore mobile gamer, this phone is definitely worth considering. But if you care about detailed user experience and camera performance, you'd better think twice.
Design & Display: A Lightweight Gaming Machine with Surprisingly Good Feel
I have to admit, I was impressed the moment I picked up the RedMagic 10 Air. At just 7.85mm thick and weighing 205g, it’s basically a "paper-thin warrior" in the gaming phone world. The metal frame and matte glass back give it an armored mech-like feel. It’s fingerprint-resistant and non-slip, and the hand feel is significantly better than the RedMagic 8 Pro I used previously.
The front is even more impressive—a 6.8-inch full display with no holes or notches. It’s pure immersion during gameplay. With 1.5K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, playing Genshin Impact or Honor of Kings feels and looks fantastic. The 2000Hz instantaneous touch sampling rate ensures instant response with virtually zero latency.
Camera Performance: Skip It for Selfies, Rear Camera Just Passable
Most gamers don't care much about cameras, but I have to complain about the front one. The 16MP under-display camera allows for a true full screen, but at the cost of selfie quality. It lacks sharpness, blurs hair strands into a mess, and has excessive smoothing. It’s okay for video calls, but you'll need multiple filters before you dare to post a selfie.
As for the rear cameras, while the official claim is dual 50MP lenses, actual photo quality is just "decent." Daytime shots are fine, with acceptable detail, but in low light, noise is noticeable and dynamic range is narrow. That said, this is a common weakness for gaming phones—it’s unrealistic to expect flagship-level imaging here.
Performance & Battery Life: Full Power and Long-Lasting
On core specs, this phone is rock solid. Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 + R3 gaming chip + dedicated shoulder triggers form a solid performance trio. Tested with Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail, and CrossFire Mobile—all run at full frame rate with decent heat management. The cooling outperforms many mainstream flagships.
Battery life is also beyond expectations. The 6000mAh battery easily lasts a full day of heavy gaming. Fully charged in the morning, play an hour of Genshin at noon, scroll through videos and play two rounds of Honor of Kings in the afternoon, and you’ll still have about 20% left by evening. For those who don’t carry a power bank, this is a big win.
Two Weaknesses: Slow Charging + Bad Selfies
But even the best have flaws. The RedMagic 10 Air’s biggest weakness is charging speed. Despite the 6000mAh battery, it only supports 80W fast charging. In a market where 100W+ is common, this feels lacking. It takes a full 74 minutes to charge from 0 to 100%.
As for selfies—well, it’s not worth repeating. As someone who occasionally takes front-camera shots, I found it disappointing: excessive blurring, grayish colors, and terrible low-light performance. RedMagic could learn a thing or two from vivo or Xiaomi—just give us a usable selfie cam.
Conclusion: Should You Buy It? Depends on Your Priorities
Ultimately, whether the RedMagic 10 Air is worth buying depends on what kind of user you are. If you're a heavy mobile gamer who prioritizes feel, performance, screen, and battery life—it's a solid 8.5 out of 10. But if your phone doubles as a lifestyle recorder, the camera experience may drive you crazy. If you're in the market for a new gaming phone, this one is definitely worth a serious look.
