REDMAGIC Cryo Cooler 8 Pro Review: 36W Power & Extreme iPhone Cooling
As mobile game graphics continue to upgrade, smartphone SoC performance also becomes more exaggerated year by year, but with it comes the most painful problem for players: heat dissipation.
Once heat begins to accumulate, the familiar scenario unfolds: throttling, frame drops, lag, and even phones becoming so hot that your palms sweat. Especially if you are running a high-graphics game, adding voice chat, background apps, or even recording your screen, the performance release rarely lasts long.
This year, RedMagic’s all-new REDMAGIC Cryo Cooler 8 Pro debuts with labels like “36W high power” and “80°C high-load cooling to -25°C low cooling,” boasting impressive specifications. But what really matters is: how does it perform in real-world usage?
Opening the box, the internal structure is quite simple: the cooler itself, a USB-C power cable, a magnetic sticker, and a manual. The magnetic sticker is designed for Android phones without native magnetic functionality. Once attached to the center of the phone back, it can achieve stable adhesion as well.
The cooler continues RedMagic’s mecha-style design language, with a dark casing and sharp-edged lines. An RGB light strip circles the front, creating a very atmospheric effect in low-light conditions. The whole unit weighs about 115g, giving a sense of heft, but it doesn’t feel cumbersome when attached to the phone. The balance is well-controlled in actual holding, so it doesn’t noticeably disrupt the phone’s original balance.
For iPhone users, the magnetic attachment is really satisfying this generation. Align it with the back, and it “snaps” into place, positioned basically over the heat core area without blocking the side buttons. The magnetic force is strong enough that you can even lift the phone by holding the cooler. Android users experience something similar after attaching the magnetic sticker—much cleaner than traditional clip-style coolers, with less burden on the hands.
What truly determines this product’s value is its power performance. Officially rated at a peak of 36W, this number is at the top tier of the current smartphone cooler market. Some may wonder if the actual performance can reach the official specs. In real-world testing, using a power meter, its power fluctuates around 32W to 35W under full load. Considering the difference between lab extremes and daily environments, this measured result is very close to the rated peak. More importantly, it can sustain this power output rather than spiking briefly and dropping quickly. For semiconductor cooling, stable high power means continuous and effective heat transfer capability.
To test its extreme performance, it was directly attached to the back of an iPhone 16 Pro Max under high load. At the start of the game, the device temperature was already warm, and iPhone users know that the hottest area during gameplay is near the camera. After activating the cooler, noticeable cooling occurred within three to five minutes, with the surface feeling cold instead of warm.
Even more importantly is long-term performance. Running a high-graphics game continuously for forty minutes, the phone’s back temperature remained relatively stable without the trend of getting hotter over time. Frame rate fluctuations were also significantly reduced, and minor stutters caused by overheating decreased noticeably.
Many worry that high power will cause excessive noise, which was closely observed. Official noise data is 36dB. In practice, the sound is noticeable as airflow but not harsh. You can perceive the fan working, but it’s not a sharp mechanical screech. Among high-power coolers of the same class, this noise control is already quite restrained.
After several days of experience, the evaluation of this product is actually simple: it uses sufficient power to provide sufficient cooling, while keeping noise and size within acceptable limits. It doesn’t deliberately pursue extreme thinness, nor compress power for quietness, but finds a balance more suitable for “eSports players” between performance and experience.
If you often play high-graphics games for long periods, especially on iPhones or other devices with relatively conservative heat structures, the stability improvement it brings is very tangible.
