Customs Duties

1. overview

When ordering from nubiamart.com, please be aware that import duties, taxes, and customs fees are not included in the product price or shipping cost. These charges are the responsibility of the buyer.

Customs policies vary significantly by country. This guide is designed to help you understand what to expect when your package arrives at customs.

We recommend contacting your local customs office for the most accurate and up-to-date information regarding import fees.

2. customs duties by region

Region What to Expect
United States, Canada Generally low duties and taxes. We comply with local customs regulations to help minimize additional charges where legally permissible.
European Union (EU) See detailed breakdown in Section 3 below.
United Kingdom, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland Generally low duties and taxes.
Middle East, South America These regions have high customs duties and taxes. Import fees are unlikely to be avoided and are the buyer's responsibility.
Southeast Asia Generally low duties and taxes.
Japan In most cases, buyers do not need to pay customs duties.

3. european union (eu) – detailed breakdown

Customs treatment for EU orders depends on the shipping method used:

3.1 shipping via post registered air mail or dedicated line express

  • We use the EU IOSS system (Import One Stop Shop) to pre-pay VAT on your behalf

  • In most cases, you do not need to pay customs duties or VAT upon delivery

  • The tax is already included at checkout

3.2 rare cases – random customs inspection

  • Customs may randomly inspect packages

  • If the contents are assessed as high-value items (e.g., smartphones), customs may reassess the value

  • In such cases, you may be charged duties based on their assessment

3.3 shipping via dhl or fedex

  • Customs duties cannot be avoided when using DHL or FedEx

  • The buyer is responsible for paying any customs charges upon delivery

4. important – remote areas in europe

Some remote areas in Europe (including islands) cannot be shipped via Express (EU Priority Shipping). Only DHL or FedEx services are available for these locations.

This means customs duties cannot be avoided if you are located in a remote European area.

Please check your address and consider this before placing your order. If you are unsure, contact us at [email protected].

5. about the EU IOSS system

What is IOSS?

The Import One Stop Shop (IOSS) is an EU program introduced to simplify VAT collection for goods imported from outside the EU.

How it works:

  • When you purchase eligible goods (value not exceeding €150) from outside the EU

  • We collect VAT at checkout and remit it through the IOSS system

  • This means you will not be charged VAT or customs fees by the carrier upon delivery – the tax is already paid

Benefits for you:

  • No surprise fees when your package arrives

  • Faster customs clearance

  • Smoother overall delivery experience

Key conditions:

Condition Requirement
Goods must be located outside the EU at time of sale ✅ Yes
Consignment value must not exceed €150
Goods must not be subject to excise duties ✅ Yes

Important notes:

  • IOSS applies only to shipments via Post Registered Air Mail and Dedicated Line Express – not DHL or FedEx

  • If customs randomly inspects your package and reassesses its value, duties may still be charged (this is rare but possible)

6. buyer's responsibilities

As the importer of record, you are responsible for:

  • Understanding your country's customs regulations before placing an order

  • Paying any applicable import duties, taxes, or fees that are not covered by IOSS

  • Providing accurate contact and address information to facilitate customs clearance

  • Checking with your local customs office if you are unsure about potential fees

7. what we are not responsible for

We are not responsible for:

  • Delays caused by customs inspection or import regulations in the destination country

  • Any customs fees, duties, or taxes imposed by your local authorities

  • Packages that are returned or seized due to non-compliance with local import laws

8. frequently asked questions

Q: Will I have to pay customs fees on my order?
A: It depends on your country and the shipping method used. Please refer to the regional guide in Section 2 above for general guidance.

Q: How does IOSS work for EU orders?
A: We collect VAT at checkout and pay it through the IOSS system. For eligible orders (under €150 and shipped via Post Registered Air Mail or Dedicated Line Express), you should not be charged VAT or customs fees upon delivery.

Q: What if customs reassesses the value of my package?
A: In rare cases, customs may inspect your package and reassess the value. If this happens, you may be charged duties based on their assessment. This is beyond our control.

Q: I live in a remote European area – will I have to pay customs?
A: Yes. Remote areas (including islands) can only be shipped via DHL or FedEx, which means customs duties cannot be avoided.

Q: Can I get a refund on customs fees?
A: No. Customs fees, duties, and taxes are collected by your local government and are not refundable by us.
